  • 1 tbsp water (for caramel)
  • 25 g butter (for caramel)
  • 100 g heavy cream (for caramel)
  • Pinch of salt (for caramel)
  • 1 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground all spice
  • 100 g butter (for buttercream)
  • 165 g powdered sugar
  • 23 tsp caramel (for buttercream)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the caramel sauce: In a saucepan, combine granulated sugar and water over medium heat. Stir until dissolved, then cook until amber in color. Add butter, heavy cream, and salt; stir until smooth.
  2. Mix dry ingredients: In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and all spice.
  3. Combine wet ingredients: In another bowl, mix sugars, grated apples, vegetable oil, eggs, sour cream, and vanilla.
  4. Combine mixtures: Fold dry ingredients into wet until just combined. Pour into a prepared pan.
  5. Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for about 45 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Make buttercream: Beat butter and powdered sugar until fluffy; add caramel and vanilla.
