  • 6 cups apples (peeled, cored, sliced)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Pastry for double pie crust
  • 23 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F.
  2. Prepare the bottom pie crust in a 9-inch pie plate and set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
  4. Spoon the apple mixture into the prepared crust and dot with small pieces of butter.
  5. Roll out the second crust on top, seal edges by crimping them together.
  6. Cut slits into the top crust for ventilation.
  7. Brush with milk and sprinkle sugar over the top.
  8. Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then reduce temperature to 375°F and bake for an additional 30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. Allow cooling before serving.
