Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2¼ teaspoons active dry yeast)
  • 1¾ cups warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons dried Italian herbs (basil, oregano, thyme, rosemary)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Extra flour for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour, salt, herbs, mozzarella, and Parmesan to the yeast mixture. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Knead dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  5. Shape the risen dough into a loaf or place it in a greased pan. Let it rise again for another 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 450°F (230°C) with a shallow pan of water at the bottom to create steam.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped.
  8. Cool on a wire rack before slicing.
