  • 1 lb smoked sausage (chicken or turkey)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup uncooked long-grain white rice
  • 2 1/4 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped parsley (for garnish)
  • Crushed red pepper flakes (for a little heat)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add sliced sausage and brown on both sides (2–3 minutes each). Remove from the pan.
  2. Lower heat to medium and toast rinsed rice in the same skillet for 1–2 minutes.
  3. Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  4. Combine chicken broth, BBQ sauce, and soy sauce; add to the skillet.
  5. Return browned sausage to the pan; bring to a simmer.
  6. Cover and cook on low for 18–20 minutes until rice is tender.
  7. Let rest covered for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.
