  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, freshly shredded
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley or 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease or line a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Cut in the cold cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg until well combined.
  6. Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  7. Spoon the dough into the prepared pan in chunky layers.
  8. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  9. Brush with melted butter mixed with garlic powder while warm.
