  • 1 lb beef strips (sirloin or ribeye)
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce (optional)
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce (if using), minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil. Add beef strips and let them marinate for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté sliced onions until soft and slightly caramelized; season with salt and pepper.
  3. Increase heat to high, add 2 tablespoons vegetable oil to the same pan, and stir-fry marinated beef for about 2-3 minutes until browned.
  4. Whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce (if using), rice vinegar, and cornstarch in a small bowl. Pour over beef in skillet and simmer until thickened.
  5. Add sautéed onions back to the pan, mix well, and serve hot over steamed rice or noodles.
